Dear Parents, Staff and Students,

Last term there was great excitement when we launched ‘Ride’2’School. Since then many students have taken the opportunity to make their way to school by bike. During that time Mrs Keenan and Mrs Attard have appreciated the assistance of our student leadership team. As part of Bicycle Victoria’s ‘1000 Bikes Student Leadership Award’ we are proud to announce that Stephanie Moore and Leigh Shields are the winners of our local student leadership award for the commitment they have shown to active travel. At tomorrow’s assembly Stephanie and Leigh will be presented with a new bike and helmet provided by Bicycle Victoria. Thank you to all our Ride’2’School leadership team for their support.

This week’s Principal’s Award is presented to Han Phillips and Daniel Nutt in recognition of their high standard of work in Information Communication Technology.  This is demonstrated in their Power Point project ‘Around The World’ in which they have used animation to great effect. Well done! It is great to see the standard of work our year 5/6 students have been producing in their work on e Portfolios and other ICT projects. Keep up the great work. Our year 6 students will be sharing their e Portfolios with parents in special student lead conferences to be held during December. These conferences will be a wonderful celebration of their learning at Kismet Park. Arrangements are currently being finalised and an invitation will be sent home shortly.

The competition between our Houses has tightened over the last couple of weeks with Hogan leading on 868points, followed by McEwen on 761 points, Clarke on 729points and Lambert on 680. Points are awarded to students who demonstrate the You Can Do It foundations of Confidence, Persistence, Getting Along, Organisation or Resilience in their classroom or in the playground. Students also earn points in recognition of Pupil Of The Week Awards, Principal’s awards and other academic and sporting achievements. Congratulations to all Houses on their work so far!

Dear Parents, Staff and Students,

On Wednesday 11th of November our Junior School Councillors will be representing our school at a Remembrance Day Service conducted by the Sunbury RSL. The service, which will take place at the Memorial Hall in Barkly Street, commemorates an important time in our country’s history. Thank you to the Sunbury RSL for including local students in their commemorations so that our students can gain an appreciation of the importance of such events.

You will have noticed a lack of action on our building site over the past few weeks. A shortage of materials has caused delays to the next stage, with the arrival of the necessary structural steel due in the next few weeks. We also continue to pursue news on the relocation of our playground and look forward to being able to share some progress with you shortly.

Finishing the week on a high note, tomorrow we have the pleasure of hosting the annual Sunbury Schools Music Festival. Throughout tomorrow students from schools across Sunbury have an opportunity to get together, celebrate and share their talent with the wider community. Well done to all involved. Performances continue tomorrow morning commencing at 10 am. All are welcome.

Regards, Glenn & Diane

Dear Parents, Staff and Students,

Congratulations to Ashleigh Coates who is the Kismet Park Primary School recipient of  the Sunbury Conservation Society’s 4th Annual 2009 Junior Environmental Care Award. These awards recognize students who are able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. Well done to all of our students who participated in this competition. Ashleigh and her class, 5/6C will be attending a presentation ceremony during River Health Activity Day on Friday 6th November 2009. Thank you to Arnie Azaris along with the Sunbury Conservation Society and their sponsors for their support of this program in our schools over the past 6 years.

A HUGE THANK YOU once again to Mick Betson, Adam Davis, Hayden Davis, Paul and Selina Mascoll who did such a great job completing the painting of our gym last Friday.  Thank you also to Paint Spot in Sunbury for their generosity in keeping costs to a minimum.

Our Prep students have had a wonderful week of swimming lessons where they demonstrated their capacity to organise themselves, show independence and develop vital water safety skills at the Sunbury Aquatic Centre. The students’ preparedness for this swimming program was evident by the manner in which they attempted new skills with confidence and a positive have-a-go attitude. Thank you to our wonderful band of parents who assisted and supported students during this program.

Members of our band, Gr 3/4B, Prep M & Z are currently busy preparing for next Friday’s (November 6th) Music Festival which will held in our school gym. Throughout the day audiences will be entertained by students from schools across Sunbury, with Kismet Park performing at 10:40. We hope you can get along to be part of the action. Good luck to all involved!

Finally, it has been great to see our House Competition up and running. In the past week we have seen Clarke and Hogan Houses getting together at lunch times to show pride in their playground environment by organising cleanup activities. Presently Hogan is in the lead with 688 points.

Dear Parents, Staff and Students,

This week we commence by expressing a HUGE THANK YOU to Lee Carter, Mick Betson, Adam Davis, Larry Davis, Paul and Selina Mascoll and Yul Scott, our fantastic crew of volunteers who did such an impressive job painting our gym at last Friday’s Painting Bee.  There will be a short, follow up Painting Bee tomorrow afternoon to complete the job with a second coat. If you are able to assist please contact the office tomorrow.

Last night a group of 20 parents attended our English Online Interview which our year Prep to 2 students are participating in.  We trust that the evening provided useful information regarding this assessment which has been introduced by the DEECD this year.

We would also like to thank Marc Taylor and his family who this week kindly donated a telescope to the school.  We look forward to Marc training us on its capabilities and then seeing it being used in classrooms. Thank you!

Last week we acknowledged the wonderful performance of our students in the University of New South Wales English Competition.  Our congratulations are also extended to Elizabeth Murdoch who achieved a Distinction for her efforts. Well done Elizabeth!

At our final assembly of 2008 ‘The Louise Trollope Award’ was awarded to Ashleigh Coates. This award is presented annually to an inspirational year 5 student. Ashleigh’s name was inscribed on our perpetual shield which is displayed at the office. It was also decided that we would introduce a replica shield which the winning student would be able to keep. Our replica shield has finally arrived and will be presented to Ashleigh tomorrow afternoon.

Kiralee Collings is the recipient of this week’s Principal’s Award for her amazing efforts in writing where she is making great use of our THRASS charts to record her thoughts. Fantastic work Kiralee!

We are happy to welcome three new students and their families to our school and hope they enjoy being part of our Kismet Park learning community. We wish Jamie Dunne 1/2G, Hayley Sandlant 1/2Z and Joshua Sandlant 5/6S all the best in their future learning.

Congratulations to Callum Cooke on being awarded an incentive prize for participating in the online voting of the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes People’s Choice Award. The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are Australia’s premier national science awards program, rewarding excellence in the fields of research & Innovation, science leadership, school science and science journalism & communication. As part of a lesson in the computer lab last term, 3/4C students accessed the online site to learn more about scientists and their vital work.  After perusing each prize winner’s contribution to Australia’s scientific advancements, some of our students made an online vote for the People’s Choice Award with this year’s recipient being Dr. Katherine Belov for her work with the Tasmanian Devil.  Callum was fortunate enough to have been selected to receive one of the incentive prizes and we look forward to making the presentation to him at tomorrow’s assembly.

Have a great term!

Regards, Glenn & Diane

Hello all,

I have just completed adding new logos to the right hand side of the website.
You Can Do It
Ride 2 School
PSW

Also I have added a kids page it is rather small at the moment but new stuff will be added as time goes on. Like anything on the web these days it is a growing project and will get better.  Feel free to leave me a comment.

Outstanding items on my to do list are:
Year 5/6 ‘home page’

  • Term Newsletter
  • Important dates
  • List of staff
  • Grades 56A   56W  56G  56C  56S

Enrolment Information

  • Introductory information
  • Forms
  • Prep information Pack
  • Readiness for school information

Policies

Pictures

Canteen menu

Fix the menu bar as it is not behaving correctly at the moment also make it look more integrated in to the website. At the moment it looks rather like an odd add-on.

As you can see the list is long but little by little it will get updated so stay posted.

Thank you.
